Description

Dingley Dell is a house, originally two cottages, likely built in the late 18th or early 19th century and modernized around 1980. The walls are plastered cob on rubble footings, with a stone rubble stack topped with 19th-century and 20th-century brick. The roof is thatched. Originally, the cottages had a single-room plan facing south, with a central axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces. The rear roof extends continuously over what were probably original rear outshots. The front was originally symmetrical with two windows and a pair of central doors. The left doorway is now blocked by a window. A 20th-century plank door is set within a gabled porch with a thatched roof. The windows are all 20th-century PVC casements with a leaded-glass lattice pattern. The roof is half-hipped at each end. Interior carpentry detail is mostly original. The roof space was not inspected. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the character of the area.
