Description

Frogbury Farmhouse is a house that was originally a farmhouse, dating back to the 17th century, with extensions from the 18th or 19th century and modernized around 1970. The building features plastered cob on rubble footings, a stone rubble or cob stack topped with 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof on the main house with slate on the outshots.

The original layout was a two-room plan facing south, with an axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces. It has a front lobby entrance and a projecting rear newel stair turret. There is an 18th or 19th-century one-room extension on the left (west) end and a rear outshot of similar age. The house is two storeys high and has an irregular five-window front with 20th-century casements that include one small original oak two-light window with a chamfered mullion above the front door. The front door now features a 20th-century glazed door and a contemporary gabled porch with a tiled roof. The left end extension room slightly projects from the main front. The roof is gable-ended on the right and hipped on the left. At the back, the stair turret has an original oak two-light window frame similar to the one at the front.

The interior was modernized around 1970. Both fireplaces are made of rubble with plain soffit chamfers. Only the central room, which was the original left room, has an exposed crossbeam that is chamfered with scroll stops, matching the finish of the original door frame to the newel stair. The roof could not be inspected at the time of the survey.
