Description
Farmhouse. It likely dates from the 18th century and was refurbished in the mid-19th century. The walls are plastered cob on rubble foundations, with exposed cob at the rear; the stacks are stone rubble topped with 19th-century brick; and the roof is thatched to the main house and has interlocking concrete tiles to the kitchen block. The house is T-shaped, with the main block facing south. This block comprises two rooms with end stacks, and a central entrance hall with a rear staircase. A lower kitchen block is located at the east end, with a rear lateral stack. A separate, unheated block projects at right angles behind the centre of the main block. The front of the main house is symmetrical, with three windows and a central 20th-century front door. It has 20th-century three-light casement windows without glazing bars. The lower kitchen block to the right has a single 20th-century casement window and a secondary door behind a 19th-century porch with a slate monopitch roof. Both roofs are gable-ended, and the rear block has a hipped roof. External stone stairs lead to a first-floor door on the right gable end of the kitchen block. The interior largely reflects 19th-century renovations, with most joinery from that period. Fireplaces have been blocked by 19th- and 20th-century grates. Crossbeams in the right room of the main block and in the kitchen appear to have deeply soffit-chamfered stops, but these are obscured by paper. The roof was not inspected.
