Description
Taw Mills is a house located in Winkleigh, likely built around the mid-17th century with 18th and 20th-century additions. The structure has plastered cob walls and a thatched roof, which is gabled at the front and hipped at the rear. It features two brick stacks, one at the left gable end and one along the axial line. The original layout consisted of two rooms, both heated by gable-end fireplaces, with an unheated 18th-century wing added to the rear. In the 19th century, the house was extended by one unheated room at the right-hand end, and a 20th-century addition was made to the right of the 18th-century wing. The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has three windows, featuring later 20th-century one and two-light casements without glazing bars. There is also a 20th-century stable-type door at the right-hand end. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is known to contain chamfered ceiling beams, and may also include open fireplaces and early roof timbers.
