Description

Buckland Bridge is a road bridge over the Grand Western Canal, built around 1814. It is constructed of English bond brick with local conglomerate sandstone coping. The bridge features a single span with a skewed elliptical arch that provides maximum headroom over the towpath. The walls of the bridge are slightly battered and rise to a plain projecting stringcourse at road level. The parapet above has rounded coping. At either end, the walls curve out to narrow terminal piers that project externally. This section of the Grand Western Canal was opened in 1814.
