Description
The Wonford Hospital Gatehouse is a gatehouse for the former Wonford House Lunatic Asylum, built in 1865 by W F Cross. It is constructed of uncoursed stone with ashlar dressings and features a slated roof with a tall stone chimney stack. The building has coped Flemish gables topped with ball finials and an L-shaped plan that includes a porch at the angle. It is a single-storey structure with a round-arched doorway that has a large keystone, flanked by brackets that support a pediment, and a blind arch on the return. Facing the drive, there is a canted bay window with an enriched plaque above the roof, while the side facing the road has a two-light transom and mullion window.
