Description
Tiddy House, also known as Old Tudor House, is a late 16th-century, four-storey timber-framed house located on Tudor Street. The ground floor is constructed of stone and red brick and features a five-light oak mullioned window, which is now blocked. The first floor has two splayed oriel windows supported by brackets, while the top floor includes two gabled half-dormers. All the windows are fitted with leaded lattice casements. The first floor showcases an impressive 17th-century cut slate-hanging. There are three heraldic features enclosed in wreaths, including a Tudor Rose and possibly the arms of the Tubervilles. It is believed that the house was built by Thomas Tuberville, who served as Bailiff of Exeter in 1578. The house has a slate roof and underwent restoration between 1964 and 1968.
