Description

Watering Farmhouse is a mid-19th century house, originally a farmhouse, situated on Fore Street in Otterton. The house is constructed of plastered brick, with brick stacks having plastered brick chimney shafts, and a slate roof. It has an L-shaped layout. The main south-facing block contains two rooms, arranged with a central passage and a rear kitchen block at a right angle to the eastern room. A staircase is located at the back of the passage, rising against the rear wall of the front room. The front rooms have end stacks, and the rear block has gable end stacks. A small, likely secondary, outshot is situated in the angle of the two wings. The two-storey front has a symmetrical facade with three windows, featuring 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A 20th-century door and overlight with glazing bars are set within the central doorway. The roof is hipped at each end and has deep, plain eaves. The interior retains a significant amount of original joinery detail. Watering Farmhouse is one of a group of attractive houses along Otterton Fore Street.
