Description

Nos. 1 and 1A, The Beacon, date from the 19th century. The building features a projecting polygonal block with painted brick facades. The ground floor has a shop front with an entablature that includes a cornice, frieze, architrave, and pilasters, although the shop windows have likely been replaced. Above, there are four sash windows, one of which is blank, with glazing bars. Adjoining this is a two-storey house also made of painted brick, which has two windows, including one blank, and an attic storey with a dormer. The doorway features a moulded archivolt and a fanlight. This building is included for its group value.
