Description
Higher Whitehouse Farm is a small house dating from the early 16th century, likely a former hall house that had a floor inserted in the 17th century. It is constructed of white-washed stone rubble and features a thatched roof with gabled ends. The building has one storey and an attic, with a three or four window range. The windows are 19th-century casements with glazing bars, and there are two gabled dormers. A modern gabled porch with a plank door is located off centre, and there is a lean-to at the north end. A brick chimney stack is positioned at the ridge and gable end.
Inside, the house has joined cruck trusses, an inserted timber-framed chimney stack, and inserted floors with stopped chamfered ceiling beams. The open fireplaces have a chamfered bressummer, and there is a plank and muntin screen at the higher (south) end. A Tudor arch doorway leads to the rear wing.
