Description

Ford Farmhouse is a house dating to around the 16th century. It is constructed of whitewashed and partly plastered stone rubble with a thatched roof featuring gabled ends. A short north-west wing has a half-hipped roof. The main house has a two-storey, five-window front. It now has modern casements with glazing bars and modern French windows, although the east side is plastered with a range of four modern casements. A large external chimney stack is located at the north end, and there are two other rebuilt brick ridge stacks. A wing on the north-west creates an L-shaped plan, likely built in the 18th or 19th century from rubble, partly rendered, and probably originally an outbuilding.

Inside, the house features jointed cruck trusses. There was originally a cross passage, but the plank and muntin screen has been removed, although it is retained at the upper end. An inserted moulded ceiling is also present. A large central chimney has a heavy, chamfered bressummer and jambs. There is another fireplace at the lower end with a chamfered bressummer. In a first-floor room is an early 17th-century decorative moulded plaster ceiling.
