Description

Fordhayes is a farmhouse, dating to around the 17th century, and possibly with earlier origins. The exterior is built of plastered stone rubble and cob, with a Welsh slate roof and gabled ends. The house has two storeys and a three-window front. It features 19th-century casement windows, with two and three panes per window. A central plank door is protected by a 20th-century gabled wooden porch. Brick chimney stacks are located at the gable ends. A stone rubble outbuilding stands at the lower, north end of the house, and a stone rubble wing at the rear forms an L-shaped plan. Inside, the ceilings have stopped and chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A staircase features turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and a panelled dado. A fragment of 17th-century panelling is found in a first-floor room.
