Description

Cottage. It likely dates from the 18th century. The walls are plastered cob construction on stone rubble footings; the stacks are stone rubble or brick, with 19th-century brick tops. The roof is thatched. The cottage has a three-room plan and faces north onto Fore Street. The room to the right has a rear lateral stack, and the room to the left has a projecting gable-end stack. It is two storeys high, with an irregular three-window front. Most of the windows are late 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, although there is also a 20th-century oculus window at ground floor level to the right, and a shop-like fixed pane window to the left of the roughly central doorway. The front door is a 20th-century part-glazed door. The roof has a gable end. The interior was not inspected for this survey. Thatched Cottage is one of several attractive listed buildings along Otterton Fore Street.
