Description
This is a barn located approximately 1 metre southeast of Housetern Farmhouse in Otterton, dating from the 18th century. The barn is constructed of cob on stone rubble footings, with some 19th-century brick patching, and features a thatched roof. It is designed as a threshing barn with access from the northwest to the southeast, with the southeast end terraced into the hillside. There are central full-height 19th-century plank doors leading to the threshing floor on either side. On the southwest side, there is a loading hatch to the right of the doorway. The roof is hipped at both ends. Inside, the barn is open from the ground to the roof, supported by a five-bay roof structure with A-frame trusses and pegged and spiked lap-jointed collars.
