Description

The Three Horseshoes at Turlake is a medium-sized house built in 1830. It has a rendered exterior and a hipped slate roof, with a rectangular plan and two storeys. The main front features three bays, with the central bay projecting forward and adorned with pilaster quoins that contain recessed panels. A central portico, which has a renewed cornice, is supported by a pair of Tuscan columns with responds and retains its original simple fanlight. On either side of the portico, there are sash windows with 16 panes and margin panes, while the three sash windows above have 12 panes each.

The left side of the house is more simply designed, with plain pilaster quoins and a central bay that has three windows on each storey, also projecting forward. The right side elevation is obscured by later additions. Renewed paired chimneys are located above both sides of the house. The back elevation is completely unadorned but features a later small gabled central wing. Although there are no contemporary internal fittings, the external appearance of the house remains largely intact, aside from an inserted dormer, and it is set between curving flank walls.
