Description
The Unitarian Chapel, located on the west side of High Street, was established in 1710 and is the oldest Non-conformist chapel in Sidmouth. The building, which dates back to 1633, has been largely rebuilt in the mid to late 19th century, thanks to the support of the Leigh-Browne family. It features a stucco exterior with a gable end slate roof and decorative bargeboards. The chapel has a gabled porch and a double pointed window facing north, which includes a rope pattern drip mould. There are also two east-facing windows with thin tracery and rope drip moulds above them, along with an octagonal light in the east gable. Inside, the chapel retains an 18th-century pulpit with a large sounding board, an 18th-century gallery front, and a clock dated 1767.
