Description

Barton House is a circa 1840 building of three storeys. It is stucco-faced with incised quoins, and has a low-pitched gable end slate roof with projecting eaves. The front has three windows to the second floor, which are recessed sash windows without glazing bars. There are two-storey stucco bows to the left and right, each featuring three sash windows on both the ground and first floors. Moulded cornices and leaded roofs are present. A central first-floor French window with marginal glazing opens onto the roof of an enclosed stucco porch. The building has round-headed entrance and side windows, a projecting moulded cornice and a Victorian iron balustrade above. The deeply recessed door consists of two flush panels and two round-headed lights, accompanied by a rectangular fanlight with a large oval pane. The reveals and soffit are panelled, and a broad architrave casing is present. The house forms a group with Barton Cottage, the garden wall to Barton Cottage, Woodlands Cottage, the garden wall to Woodlands Cottage, and Coburg Road.
