Description
Rainscombe House is a house built around 1810 by T. Baldwin of Bath. It features a Roman cement exterior on brick with a slate roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and cellars, arranged in a 5 by 3 bay layout. The garden front includes a portico supported by paired Ionic columns and a wide glazed entrance. The central bay is raised and has flanking niches, while the ends of the facade are also slightly raised and feature niches. The basement is rusticated below the ground floor windows. The windows are twelve-paned sashes, except for the centre of the first floor, which has eight-paned sashes and is adorned with a fascia and cornice. The eaves are moulded, and the roof is double hipped with flat-roofed dormers. The side elevation has a central entrance flanked by pilasters from a 20th-century portico that has since been removed. Inside, there is a large hall that leads to a stair at the rear, along with flanking reception rooms.
