Description
Nos 4 and 5 on Church Street are originally one house dating from the late 17th century. The building has two storeys plus attics and features two gables. The left-hand gable has two sash windows with intact glazing bars and architrave surrounds, while the right-hand gable has one similar window. There are five windows on the first floor, also similar but with flat cornices above. The ground floor is divided centrally by a passageway with an arched entrance. To the left of this opening is a plain square-headed doorway and a small shop window, while to the right is a large shop window. Access to the shop is through a plain doorway located on the side of the passage. This building is part of a group that includes other listed buildings in Church Street, such as the Chantry, Little Chantry, Barton Orchard, and the Catholic Church of St Thomas More, as well as Nos 7 and 9 to 19 Barton Orchard, Nos 5 and 6, and 27 to 31 (consecutive) and a wall at Newtown.
