Description
The stone wall, steps, and gatepiers to the forecourt of No 29 are located on the north side of Church Street. The property is situated above road level, with a turning flight of stone steps leading from the road to the forecourt, which features a stone wall revetment. At the foot of the steps, there are two stone gatepiers that project forward. These piers have recessed panels and moulded tops, which support a wrought-iron arched lamp-bracket. The wrought-iron gate incorporates a spike motif. There is another similar pair of gatepiers to the left, also with wrought-iron gates. Additionally, there is an isolated single pier set in the wall towards the middle. Wrought-iron spiked railings run along the top of the wall, enclosing the forecourt. This structure is part of a group of listed buildings in Church Street, which includes the Chantry, Little Chantry, Barton Orchard, and the Catholic Church of St Thomas More, as well as Nos 7 and 9 to 19 Barton Orchard, Nos 5 and 6, and 27 to 31 (consecutive) and the wall at Newtown.
