Description

The east boundary wall to the back garden of No. 54 in The Close dates back to 1594. This massive wall is constructed of flint rubble with diagonally set tiles as a capping, and it may incorporate materials reused from Old Sarum. It is likely associated with Lord Hungerford's Chantry. The listed buildings in The Close form an outstanding group.
