Description
The former stable block, now serving as a garage for No 56A and 56B, dates back to the 14th or 15th century. Constructed from stone rubble, some of which likely originates from Old Sarum, it also features flint rubble, tile herringbone, and later brick additions. The building is single-storey with an old tile roof at the gable end. It underwent alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, transforming the coach house, which now includes leaded casements and a plain door, along with a gabled loft hatch. The roof has five bays with visible queen posts at the south end, collars, principals, purlins, and two tiers of windbraces. Additionally, part of the east wall is made of cob. All the listed buildings in The Close create an outstanding group.
