Description
The railings at Rosetree, dated 1765, are located on Silverless Street. They feature moulded cast lead heads with cypher ornament. The building itself is three stories high, with a chequer brick ground floor and mathematical tiles on the upper part. It has a moulded wood frieze and cornice, along with a lead-lined gutter and an old tile roof.
On the second floor, there are three windows framed by Doric pilasters that extend to the main frieze. The central window on the first floor has a wide frame and a moulded entablature, flanked by two two-storey angular bay windows that have a small cornice at the first-floor level and at the head. The central entrance features a six-panel door in a plain surround, set within a door case of three-quarter engaged Doric columns, with a cornice that is broken over the columns and a pediment above. There is also an 18th-century lamp holder. The ground and first-floor windows do not have glazing bars.
The early 19th-century cast iron railings at the front of the building contribute to its character. Rosetree, along with Nos 3 to 8 (consecutive) and Nos 9 to 15 (consecutive) opposite, forms a group with Nos 1A to 5 (consecutive) on The Green.
