Description

The Bowdler Monument is a double chest tomb located in the churchyard about 16 meters south of the gatepiers and southeast of the Church of St. Thomas. This late 18th-century monument is made of ashlar and features a single oval plaque on each side, fluted angle piers, and a moulded base and cornice. The inscriptions commemorate T. and E. S. Bowdler, although the dates are indecipherable. The Bowdler family is known for their connection to the editor of "The Family Shakespeare."
