Description
Three Freeman monuments are located at the angle of the chancel and organ chamber of the Church of St Nicholas. These are three chest tombs from the early 19th century, made of limestone.
From the north, the first monument features an inset bead moulded table with a cyma base on a plinth. It has fielded side panels with concave corners. The table is set at an incline and bears an inscription dedicated to Emily and John Freeman of Chute Lodge, who died in 1819.
The second monument has a moulded table and base, with two fielded panels on the sides and a single panel at each end. It carries an inscription on the table for John Freeman of Chute Lodge, although the date of death is not readable.
The third monument is similar to the second and is dedicated to Elizabeth Freeman and others, with the dates of death also not readable. The last two monuments are noted to be in poor condition as of February 1987.
