Description
Gable End and No. 65 is a house that has been converted into two cottages, dating from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame and chalkstone construction, which is pebbledashed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and originally consisted of two bays in a lobby entry plan. A third bay, likely built around the same time but at a higher level, is located to the left, while a narrow bay has been added to the right end, now part of No. 65.
The central entrance has a boarded door set in a porch that extends the thatched roof. The right bay displays some exposed framing with a corner brace, while the added bay is rendered and features a gable facing the street. There is quoining at the left end. The central bay includes deeply inset timber windows, a metal window in the left bay, and three flush dormers. A brick stack is present, and the roof is half-hipped at the ends.
Inside, the main parlour has a timber fire lintel and a chamfered spine beam, both with ogee chamfered stops. There is a timber-framed partition in the right bay, and the original stair at the rear of the stack has been replaced by a stair at the rear of the parlour.
