Description

Timbrell Cottages are a group of Tudor-style almshouses depicted on the 1838 Tithe Map. The cottages are arranged in a symmetrical "H" plan. They are constructed of coursed and dressed stone with a slate roof, except for stone tiles on the right-hand gable. The design features projecting gabled sections on either side, linked across the centre by a loggia arcade on the ground floor. A half-dormer is centrally positioned. Each gable is parapetted with a moulded cope and kneelers. The building has two large, off-ridge stone stacks. Each gable contains a three-light window to the first floor and a four-light window to the ground floor. Four central windows are arched, with decorative labels; all windows contain glazing bar casements. A central pointed doorway is flanked by two-light windows of a matching design. The porch loggia comprises three pointed arches leading to a stone-flagged shelter, with a chamfered drip, parapet, and moulded cope. A panel above the central arch displays a shield, a shell in the first and fourth positions, and a griffin in the crest. Single-storey wings project to the left and right sides, featuring blocked four-light windows and doorways consistent with the overall style.
