Description
The gatehouse and bridge at Southwick Court Farmhouse, possibly dating from the late 15th century, features alterations from the 17th and 18th centuries. Constructed from random rubble stone, it has a stone slate roof with a brick stack on the left side. The gatehouse is two stories high with one window. It has a moulded Tudor-arched doorway at the center with double planked doors, a 2-light leaded casement window to the left, and a 4-light ovolo-mullioned casement window with a king mullion on the first floor. The rear of the building includes double planked doors to the left and a 4-light ovolo-mullioned casement window with a king mullion and hoodmould on the first floor. Although the interior was not accessible during the survey in June 1987, it is reported that the upper room was used as a cheeseroom. The bridge over the moat leading to the gatehouse is likely from the 18th century, made of brick with two small segmental arches and a parapet featuring flat stone coping.
