Description
The late 18th century Nos. 23 and 25 Vicarage Street originally comprised a single house, and are accompanied by a boundary wall to the south of No. 25. The building is two storeys and has an attic, with a cornice, rendered on a stout plinth with a moulded capping. It has a slate roof with stone verges and a brick gable end, along with three hipped dormers featuring two-light casements. The front has three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor. The right-hand range (No. 25) retains four-pane glazing bar sashes, while the other windows have been altered with the insertion of aluminium casements. There are two separate front doors, each with cut stone brackets supporting moulded flat hoods. No. 23 has a glazed door, and No. 25 has a six-panel door (with the upper two panels glazed) and a cast iron knocker. No. 25 retains its original staircase and features mullioned openings to the cellar. A two-storey, coursed small rubble extension with an old tile roof is located to the rear of No. 25, with a three-light wooden casement on each floor to the left. The boundary wall extends approximately 100 yards from the south-west corner, constructed of coursed small rubble with some brick patches. The wall’s height varies approximately from 15 feet to 5 feet, rising to 8 feet over a distance of 20 yards, with three entrances - two doors and a gate.
