Description

No 22, known as The Old Vicarage, is a wide-fronted house set back from the road on Vicarage Street in Warminster. The right side of the house dates from the early 18th century but has been altered. It is two storeys tall, lower than the left wing, with an attic and features a small rubble exterior and a tiled roof, which is a 19th-century replacement with fishscale bands. There is a moulded band above the ground floor, and the house has a series of three two-light stone mullion windows, likely remade during the Victorian era. The left-hand ground floor window is offset by a later doorway that has a 17th-century style moulded surround, a four flush panel door, and a projecting gabled wooden porch. There are two Victorian dormers, each with two lights. The left side of the house is a mid-Victorian extension built with similar materials, featuring two ranges of two-light mullion windows with casements and a later angled bay on the left return. The house has a total of five chimneys, two of which are on the ridge and made of ashlar with moulded coping. Inside, the house retains several period features, including an Adam style fireplace in the hall. The room to the right of the hall has a boxed surround to the fireplace, which may be a pew back removed from a church. The house and garden are separated from the road by a boundary wall made of coursed rubble, approximately 4 feet high and about 15 yards long, with gates.
