Description
No 4, known as West Down, is an early 18th-century building located on the west side of Church Street in Warminster. It is two storeys high with an attic, constructed of red brick resting on a rubble plinth, featuring a moulded capping and a weathered stone string at the first-floor level. The building has a small moulded stone cornice above the first-floor windows and a brick parapet with stone coping.
There are two hipped dormer casements with tile-hung cheeks, each containing two lights. On the first floor, there are two three-light stone mullioned casements, although the lights are modern. The ground floor features two glazing bar sash windows in stucco surrounds, which flank a particularly fine doorway located to the right of centre. This doorway consists of a six-panel recessed door with an architrave surround and a triple keystone that cuts through the architrave at the top. It is set within an outer rusticated frame supported by heavy cut brackets that hold up a broken cornice and an open pediment. The tympanum is decorated with a carved mask and fruit swags, and there is a good brass knocker on the door.
At the rear, there is a 'T' plan extension that is partly rendered and partly rubble, featuring two stone mullion windows on the south-east side.
