Description
The Lacket is a cottage dating from the early 18th century, constructed of brick and featuring thatched roofs. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance leads into a central dining room, with an added early 19th-century room to the left that now serves as a drawing room-library; this room is likely a rebuild of the original inner room. To the right of the dining room is the kitchen, located beyond the stack. There are extensions at the rear, and a well-designed 20th-century timber extension that includes a garden room and a children's room. The cottage has a door in a 20th-century thatched porch, which features a reset datestone inscribed with I/R. M 1709. The ground floor has paned windows, while the left bay has leaded windows. The roof is hipped, with a stack on the left gable and a taller stack for the main fireplace in the central bay. It is noted that Carrington (Mrs Partridge) is said to have stayed here during her visits to Wiltshire.
