Description
The summerhouse in the walled garden of Hartham Park was built around 1905 by H.A. Peto. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone-tiled hipped roof in the Palladian style. The design includes a modillion eaves cornice and an open loggia at the front supported by Ionic columns. The side openings are Venetian-arched, complete with a keystone and a moulded entablature that extends across slightly raised side piers. There are two attached columns on each side that were part of a former pergola. This summerhouse was originally part of a water garden that included a rectangular pond in front and a long canal aligned with the structure, which was once crossed by a low arched bridge. These features were removed for the construction of a 20th-century house, Hartham Park.
