Description

The Gate Lodge, dating to circa 1850-60, serves as a lodge to Hartham House. Constructed of ashlar, it features a low-pitched slate roof with brackets to the eaves. The building is of one-and-a-half storeys and an ā€˜L’ shape, designed in an Italianate style. A ridge stack is located on the front range, and a side wall stack is on the rear range. The east gable, facing the road, and the south gable, facing the drive, are similar, with projecting eaves forming open pedimental gables. Both gables contain a nine-pane upper sash window with a sill band, and a nine-pane lower sash window with a sill band to the east end of the ground floor. The south end features a canted bay with a sill band. A raised plinth is present. A two-bay Roman Doric porch with two columns, a pilaster respond, an entablature, and ball finials is located in the angle of the building. A door and a nine-pane window are within the porch on the south side of the east range.
