Description

The Dower House is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. It has an early 18th century core at the rear, with a mid-19th century addition to the south-east, which is dated 'RHP/1842' on the south-west gable. There is also a later 19th century addition to the north-east wall, featuring a Hungerford Pollen crest above the doorway. The building is constructed from coursed rubble for the core ranges and the side walls of the 1842 block, with squared and coursed rubble on the south-east front, stone dressings, and ashlar copings. The roofs at the rear are covered with concrete tiles, while the south-facing roofs have stone slates and end brick stacks. The house has a T-shaped plan, with the core range at the rear of the 1842 block and a late 19th century dairy or cheese room addition to the right of the main block.

The south-east front is two stories high with three windows. The windows are three-light chamfered mullions; the ground floor windows have 2-pane timber casements, while the upper floor windows feature octagonal glazed cast iron casements. There is a central gabled porch with a stone slate roof, which has a Tudor-arched entrance with a Pollen crest above and a Pollen pelican at the apex of the gable. The porch contains a six-panel door with two top lights, and there is an additional plank door leading to the dairy or cheese room on the right.
