Description
The Round House is a house dating from the late 18th century, possibly incorporating earlier work in the rear wing. It is constructed of flint-laced brick and features a tiled roof. The building has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic. Originally designed with two bays, it now has two bays with a central stair hall and an entrance on the south side, which is sheltered by a rustic porch. There is a plat band and panelled rooms with paned timber casement windows.
In the early 19th century, the house was remodelled, adding two-storey yellow brick rounded bays to each gable end and reroofing the entire structure with cogged eaves. It includes two hipped dormers, and the rear wing may have served as the north service end of the earlier two-bay building.
Inside, there is a 19th-century stair with an open-well that was inserted during the remodelling. The rear wing features a blocked open gable fireplace with a double ovolo-moulded lintel and a moulded shelf, along with 17th-century panelling that is likely from another location. Additionally, there is a flat-roofed kitchen extension on the north side of the wing, built around 1960.
