Description

Mellow Thatch is a 17th-century cottage located in Winterbourne Gunner. The building is timber framed with a rendered front, wattle and daub infill, and a thatched roof. It comprises two main bays, with a third, smaller half-bay beyond a gable stack. The original layout included a living room, an inner room, and a narrow service room. A weatherboarded lean-to has been added to the left end, and a timber-framed stair tower extends from the rear. The timber framing is arranged in three vertical panels, incorporating straight corner braces. The front entrance features a six-panelled door sheltered by a thatched canopy and contained within a trellis porch. The ground floor windows consist of triple and paired small 12-paned sashes, while the first floor has 19th-century timber casements. The thatched roof extends over the added lean-to. A brick stack is present.
