Description
The Old Fire Station is a fire station built in the late 19th century, which incorporates elements from a 17th century or early 18th century building. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a stone tiled roof. The structure is two stories high with a single-storey 19th century wing. The main range has a timber bell turret at the east end, with 19th century openings below. The north side has doors from the 19th century, while the south side features a four-light flush bead-moulded mullion window above a three-light recessed ovolo-moulded window, both of which have hoodmoulds.
There are two parallel extensions at the west end; the south side is made of ashlar stone below and red brick above, while the north side is constructed of rubble stone, both topped with hipped west gables. From the south-east angle, there is a later 19th century extension that includes coach doors on the west side, a window with a reused lintel dated 1709, and a projecting gabled coach-house featuring a two-light reused recessed cyma-moulded gable window above the coach doors. The building is included for its group value.
