Description
No. 38 is a detached cottage dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of flint and limestone, topped with a thatched roof featuring an axial brick stack. The building has a baffle-entry plan and is single-storey with an attic, comprising two windows across the front. The central entrance is a planked door set beneath a thatched porch, flanked by three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds on either side. The attic features two eyebrow dormers, each with 2-light casements.
On the right side, the return wall is made of chalk and includes two small blocked windows at ground level and a single casement window in the rendered attic. The rear of the cottage has a three-light mullioned casement with a hoodmould on the left, a planked door in a gabled porch on the right, and two eyebrow dormers with 2-light casements in the attic. The left return wall has a lean-to extension. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in February 1986.
