Description
No. 44 is a Grade II listed building that consists of two cottages now combined into one. It dates from the 17th century and features square-panelled timber-framing with brick nogging on the first floor and dressed limestone on the ground floor. The roof is thatched, with a half-hip on the right side and a hip on the left, along with brick chimney stacks. The building has a baffle entry plan and is a single storey with an attic, presenting two windows on the entrance front that faces away from the street. There is a 20th-century porch and a three-light casement window to the right, with two 20th-century two-light casements to the left. The attic includes dormers with two-light casements. The rear, which faces the street, has two recessed chamfered mullioned casements with two lights each on the ground floor, and the attic features a long eyebrow dormer on the right with two-light casements, along with another two-light casement in an eyebrow dormer on the left. The right side has a flat-roofed 20th-century extension with 20th-century casements. The interior is reported to have blocked open fireplaces and chamfered beams with run-out stops.
