Description

Five monuments are located in the churchyard, 2 to 5 meters south of the chancel of the Church of the Holy Cross. These consist of four chest tombs and one headstone, dating from the early to late 18th century, and are made of limestone. The monuments are lettered from north to south.

The first monument is an unidentified chest tomb from the early 18th century, featuring lyre-shaped end panels and an ornate cartouche that frames a central inscription panel on the north side, with a later panel inset but collapsing on the south. It has a deep chamfer to the slab.

The second monument is an unidentified headstone positioned against the east end of the first tomb. This early 18th-century headstone has an ornately scrolled border, with an hourglass and open bible framing a putto at the head.

The third monument is an unidentified chest tomb from the late 18th century, which has angle balusters and three raised and fielded panels on each side, although the panel on the north side was collapsed at the time of the resurvey in August 1986. It also features a deep chamfer to the slab.

The fourth monument is another unidentified late 18th-century chest tomb, similar to the third, with angle balusters and three raised and fielded panels on each side, and a deep chamfer to the slab.

The fifth monument, dated 1743, is an unidentified chest tomb that includes angle balusters and three raised and fielded panels on each side, with the southern panel adorned with egg-and-dart borders. The lettering on this tomb has eroded, and it also has a deep chamfer to the slab.
