Description
This is a barn located to the east of Cowage Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century with some restoration in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with dressed stone around the midstrey jambs and quoins, and has a rendered west midstrey gable topped with a stone slate roof. The barn features a cruciform plan with full height midstreys on the east and west fronts, and has plank gates. To the left of the west midstrey is a half-hipped former stable extension that has been converted into garages, with a window on the north end. Inside, there is a butt-purlin collar and tie-beam roof structure that includes some queen struts. The south wall has an inner skin made of breeze blocks, and the roof was noted to be decayed at the time of the last resurvey in May 1986.
