Description
64 Lower Road is a two-storey villa dated 1848, constructed of cob with a rendered exterior and rusticated quoins. It features a steeply pitched hipped slate roof with deep flat eaves. The south-facing garden front has two windows on each floor, both with marginal glazed recessed sashes. There is a later red brick two-storey extension to the west. The entrance is located at the east end, where there is one marginal glazed sash window on the first floor, and a central six-panel door set in a panelled reveal. Above the door is a two-pane marginal glazed fanlight, surrounded by stucco pilasters, a frieze, and a projecting cornice. To the right, there is a small two-light marginal glazed casement. The north elevation mirrors the garden front with two windows, and includes a later small sash window in the centre of the first floor. A relief depicting a woman on horseback, possibly an Amazon, along with the date 1848, is set at the base of the former western outside wall, which is now enclosed by the later brick extension. This house is notable for being built of cob at this time.
