Description
The Manor House, located on Lower Road in Bemerton, dates back to 1594, with elements from the 17th and 18th centuries, and possibly a 16th-century origin. The building features a late 18th-century front that is two storeys high, constructed of colourwashed stucco and topped with a steeply pitched old tile roof. The facade includes four windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor, all fitted with Venetian shutters. To the left of centre, there is a six-panel door with an attractive brass ring handle, sheltered by a plain porch that has a hipped tile roof, giving the house a picturesque appearance.
At the rear, the northeast wall displays an external brick chimney with ashlar quoins. Inside, the house features a closed string staircase with turned balusters and ball finials on the newels. There is also some 17th and 18th-century panelling, along with a 17th-century ceiling beam in the west room on the first floor. Additionally, there are timber plate and post elements that may date back to the 16th century.
