Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of six houses, originally numbered 1 to 6 Church Terrace and now known as numbers 23 to 33 on Church Street in Westbury. The terrace is constructed of red brick with stone pilasters marking the corners of the buildings and separating each house. There is a stone plinth at ground level and a bold moulded stone coping along the top. The roofs are slate, with brick chimneys along the ridge. The windows are sash windows, each with four panes. They have stepped stone voussoir heads. The front doors are flush-panelled, arranged in pairs, and each is topped with a rectangular fanlight within a plain stone surround featuring flat stone brackets and a hood. Numbers 23 and 25 have been altered with the introduction of modern casement windows, glazed doors, and shutters. The original cast iron railings and gates to the front garden have been removed. A brick retaining wall runs along the road, topped with stone coping that ramps twice, and supports the remaining railings. Arrowhead-shaped railings are present at the gates to the right of number 33, with an arched central brace.
