Description
Salterton House is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with an early 19th-century service wing and extensions made around 1964. The building is constructed of flint and greensand nodules, with limestone dressings, and features a tiled roof. It has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. The main block has five bays facing north, with a two-bay rear wing that was extended in the mid-20th century. The house has a chamfered sill and a central doorcase from the 19th to 20th century, featuring glazed doors made of Bath stone, pilasters, a keystone, and a broken pediment that clasps an urn. The inner bays have 12-paned sash windows with a circular window above on the first floor, which was inserted in the 20th century. The outer bays also have 12-paned sashes on both floors, all with stone moulded surrounds. The roof is hipped and includes two hipped dormers, with one dormer on each end gable. There is a major brick stack located in the fourth bay. The rear wings, added in the 19th century, use limestone instead of greensand and have similar moulded window openings in Bath stone, along with panelled external shutters. Inside, there is a staircase with turned balusters, likely from the 19th century.
