Description

The Banks monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard north of the north-east angle of the Church of St Peter. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar with slab sides. The tomb features an incised relief of a draped urn between two plaques on each side, as well as recessed reeded angle pilasters. It has a moulded base and cornice, along with a pulvinated fluted frieze. The south side of the monument bears an inscription dedicated to James Banks, who died in 1841.
