Description

Marsh Farmhouse is a 17th-century timber-framed farmhouse that was altered in the early 19th century. It has a thatched roof with ridge and west end stacks and is two storeys tall, forming an L-shape with an additional rear wing to the southeast. The front of the house has been modified in the early 19th century to reflect a picturesque cottage style, featuring a thatched roof that sweeps down low over a deep verandah supported by five rustic tree trunks. Within the verandah, the original two-storey timber-framed front is visible, showcasing painted brick panels alongside an early 19th-century painted brick extension to the left.

On the ground floor, there are early 19th-century leaded two-light Gothic windows, with one located in the left addition and two to the right in the timber-framed section. The door is Gothic-panelled, and a large casement window has been inserted to the left of the right window. The timber-framed section also features three small upper windows. The east end wall is made of red brick from the 19th century. The roof is hipped at the west end, while the southwest rear wing is timber-framed and thatched, complete with a stack at the south end. The southeast wing is constructed of brick and covered with Bridgwater tiles, also featuring an end stack. This farmhouse is an unusual example of early 19th-century picturesque taste.
