Description

The Crown Inn is an inn that dates from the 18th century, with possible origins in the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a stone tiled roof with a ridge stack. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan with several additions. The earliest section is located at the northwest and consists of a two-window range with upper four-pane windows. The ground floor has two thick glazing bar twelve-pane sash windows and a plank door set within an early 18th-century ashlar porch. This porch has a Tudor-arched doorway with raised impost bands and a shallow gable.

To the left, there is another two-window range with two upper twelve-pane windows and a cellar door below. Beyond this is a converted outhouse that includes four first-floor 20th-century windows and a 20th-century door. An east end stack is present. Behind the original range is a rear wing, which appears to be from the early 19th century, featuring three first-floor unmoulded two-light windows, a ground floor nine-pane window, a former door with a hood on brackets, and an inserted window along with another nine-pane window. The south end stack seems to have originally been internal and bears a scratched date of 1643. In the rear angle, there is a two-storey range parallel to the front, which has an upper two-light window and a lower three-light window on the south side. The original range includes a fireplace with stone jambs and a renewed lintel.
