Description

49 New Canal is a Grade II* listed building. The left side of the front, which is No 49, is entirely modern. However, the right side features a re-erected 14th to 15th century gabled timber-framed first floor, notable for its unique original barge-boards. The exposed timber frame includes scissor bracing, a tie beam, and the roof structure is intact. The ground floor has a modern shop front, but the posts with brackets that support the first floor have been preserved. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 45 to 51.
